Family Matters Part 6: Parenting Begins With Self-Examination

“Whatever you have learned or received, or heard from me,
or seen in me – put it into practice.” Philippians 4:9

Mirrors are interesting things. What we see is what we get. We sometimes
hope when we look into a mirror that we will see something different, but a
mirror only reflects what is in front of it. The mirror may be cracked or distorted,
but it still reflects. “Mirror, mirror on the wall, tell me who is the fairest of them
all . . .” Well, our children are great mirrors. They imitate what they see in us.
Yes, each is unique and has their own personality and responsibility before God,
but we leave an indelible imprint on them every day we are with them. I would
say that many of the things we don’t like in what we see in our kids, is exactly
what we know and wish were different in ourselves.
